Thanks for these recordings. Love it. However your link incorrectly states that there's a South African version. They are the Australian version. Only the Goodyear commercial and intro are South African. The episode itself was recorded and produced in Sydney at Grace Gibson Radio Productions and licensed overseas, thus the South African commerical link. The Australian episodes starred Harp Maguire, an American who migrated to Sydney and starred in many Australian serials.

I've been a fan of Old Time Radio for about 5 decades. Night Beat was one of the best series. The sound quality and Frank L. are a bonus, making for winning performances.
Sadly, the limited number of shows only makes each one that much more precious.

Like many US radio programs of 40s & 50s, there was also an Australian version. The first episode of this collection, Elevator, is certainly the US NBC program.
The Australian version was broadcast on the Macquarie Radio Network on Saturday nights; I think it was a Grace Gibson Radio Production but I'm prepared to be corrected on that. My father used to enjoy the show and he often used the catchphrase at the end of each show: "Copy Boy!". I was not allowed to listen to a show that was on that late at night.

I started with track one "Elevator" where here was "Lucky" Stone. In the next show he was "Rudy." Somewhere down the line he will be "Randy." HA!
I haven't got past the second show. But somewhere down the line the program was sponsored by Wheaties.

Superlative mood, atmosphere, and characters. Frank Lovejoy was perfect for the role.

Of all the old radio programs I've downloaded, this one is my favorite. I just wish I could "un-hear" them so I could listen to them for the first time again!

These dramas are timeless revealing the vicissitudes of the human condition. The themes of each episode are as real today as they were then. I have listened to them all and each show is powerful. Supporting actors included Joan Banks, Parley Baer, William Conrad, Jeff Corey, Lawrence Dobkin, Paul Frees, Jack Kruschen, Peter Leeds, Howard McNear, Lurene Tuttle, Martha Wentworth and Ben Wright. FRANK LOVEJOY is the lead - and his delivery is perfect. He emotes with a quiet passion that sets the listener at ease and at the same time draws you into his narrative. Ain't nothin' like this on the boob tube!

these must be the high-res versions i stupidly put off downloading from the binaries newsgroup back in...oh, whenever that was. the darkest, the best, with lovejoy more effective than he ever was in film. the untitled ones have correct episode numbers, and episodic logs are easy to find. two episodes are mistitled as noted by the OP. also, the ted carter audition is not the o'brien one. minor cavils. thanks so much to Mike Davis...if you have any more, please share.

I found only two title problems:
500313_006_The_Professors_System.mp3
should be titled
500313_006_Am I My Brothers Keeper.mp3
and
500320_007_Am_I_My_Brothers_Keeper.mp3
should be
500320_007_The Man Who Claimed to Be Dead.mp3
Otherwise, it's a nice series devoted to, as so many reviews have said, "the human side" of criminal and other desperate lives. The sound quality here is also very, very good.
This set seems to leave off very neatly at a certain point in the series. Does this mean more HQ episodes are forthcoming?

I have had a set of Night Beat recordings that I listen to regularly. However those are no-where near the quality of this set. Great OTR show and excellent sound quality. A must have for OTR fans
